The surge of Smartphone Business In India comes as a shock to no one. The Indian smartphone market clocked 27 million units. The market has risen 4.7% sequentially and 14% year on year.
India is one of the fasted growing smartphone markets.Driven by increased data consumption and falling data prices, a huge number of feature phone users seek affordable users.
Major Japanese and Chinese smartphone giants dominate the Indian market. E-commerce websites like Amazon have witness a 100% growth in the Smartphone Business In India.
Japanese tech major Panasonic expects a revenue of close to 2000 crore from it`s smartphone business this year as they plan to launch new devices and start aggressive marketing. As many as 28 devices are scheduled for launch this year in the price range of Rs.6000-Rs.20000.
" We ended our partnership with Jaina in April and are now pursuing the smartphone business on our own. Last few months have been spent on preparing for the launch and now we are ready to bring in the best products for Indian customers" Panasonic India Business Head Mobility Division Pankaj Rana told PTI.
The rise of Xiaomi, another Chinese brand, in India over the last 12 months has been even more commendable. The company does not play in the high volume feature phone segment.
It does not have a traditional offline sales network. Unlike other Chinese brands, it does not market or advertise its products through conventional mediums as well. Yet, it has emerged as the second largest smartphone player in India with 15.5 per cent share in Q2 2017 as per Counterpoint Research. Only a year back, it accounted for just 4 per cent of the smartphone market and was not even in the top 5.
Amazon India has stated that Smartphone Business Growing At Over 100% for us. Global e-commerce giants Amazon expects further acceleration in its smartphone business in India that is already witnessing over 100% growth.
" We have seen 100 per cent growth in our smartphone business. This is driven by strong uptake of premium uptake of premium products and demand from tier II and tier III cities", Amazon India Category Leader (Consumer Electronics) Arun Srinivasan told PTI.
Amazon has emerged as a strong competitor to E-commerce websites like Flipkart which exclusively launched Xiaomi and Motorola.
" We have brands across clusters. There are likes of One Plus that continue to remain with us. There are players like Samsung that have a strong offline presence and have strengthened their online play selling through our platform." he said.
